Our tip: A winter hike to Passo Stalle/Staller Sattel

Winter doesn’t automatically mean skiing. How about an idyllic winter hike, followed by a toboggan run?

Hotels in South Tyrol around the Plan de Corones/Koronplatz, one of the best ski areas in Europe, are in great demand. Those who come here usually have one thing in mind: skiing. That’s no surprise when you look at these slopes. Nevertheless, you should also take a look over the edge of the slopes, because the Val Pusteria/Pustertal has so much more to offer. Winter hikes with toboggan runs, for example. A hot favourite during the cold winter months is a hike to Passo Stalle/Staller Sattel in Valle di Anterselva/Antholzer Tal. Starting point is the wonderful Lago di Anterselva/Antholzer See. It alone is worth a trip as it enchants both in summer and winter with its picturesque location. Follow the circular walk along the lake for about 30 minutes to reach the opposite side. From there, path no. 11 leads you in an hour to the 2052m high Passo Stalle/Staller Sattel and then downhill to the Oberseehütte, where you can fortify yourself and rent a toboggan. After a short break, it’s time to head back to Passo Stalle/Staller Sattel, from where you can toboggan down to the lake. The total walking time is about two hours.
