Taufers Castle

This mighty medieval castle reveals all its historical importance. Once home to the Lords of Taufers, in 1977 it became the property of the South Tyrolean Castle Institute.

Taufers Castle

In the 15th and 16th centuries it was enlarged to become a spacious residence. The entirely furnished and well-kept castle is one of the largest and most beautiful castles in the whole of Tyrol. It has an interesting collection of furnishings and works of art from different ages (12th to early 17th century). Of the 64 rooms about two-thirds are paneled. Friedrich Pacher's frescoes in the chapel are especially precious.
