Prettau Exhibition Mine

The Prettau copper mine played a vital role for the local economy and trade already back in the Middle Ages.
Prettau Exhibition Mine
In 1426 not only did the local lord Friedl come to profit for free from two guns, but he could also use the mined ore for the production of thin wire and copper products. Despite the many tools and a refined technique (cutting) it was not always easy to locate the precious copper. Economic crises in the course of the century made it more and more difficult financially to keep the mine running.
Today it is a fascinating exhibition mine where visitors can enjoy a tour of the tunnels and learn more about life underground. In addition, the climatic gallery is a pleasant experience for visitors with breathing problems thanks to its high air humidity.
