This mighty medieval castle reveals all its historical importance. Once home to the Lords of Taufers, in 1977 it became the property of the South Tyrolean Castle Institute.
The most important museum in the eastern Alps is the fruit of decades of passion in seeking and collecting minerals. More than 950 single exhibits display specimens from the Zillertaler Alps and the Hohe Tauern dating back to about 30 million years ago. The museum offers 300 m² of exhibition space.
Founded in 1142 by the Blessed Bishop Hartmann as an Augustinian Canons Abbey, it became one of the main centers of learning and art thanks to its school.
